How useful is oregano?

On a cold winter evening, I like to drink a mug of tea with herbs. Hot, tasty and fragrant tea will immediately warm. But not only that. Memories of how in the hot summer I gathered twigs, leaves, flowers for future tea will also warm.

This winter, I most often recall a huge lilac meadow with fluffy-rough panicles of oregano. Beauty – don’t take your eyes off! And what a flavor! Oregano tea drink is pleasant, has the smell of slightly withered hay, goes well with mint, lemon balm, St. John’s wort, currants, rose hips.

Oregano grows almost throughout Russia, especially loves dry forests and meadows, edges, clearings, roadsides. It begins to bloom in June and sometimes continues until October.

The medicinal plant is widely used in folk medicine. The whole aerial part of oregano is healing. The grass contains ascorbic acid, tannins, essential oil, bitterness. Oregano broth is used for respiratory diseases as an expectorant and diaphoretic. It is useful for patients with various colds, asphyxiation.

They use grass as a gastric remedy for more enhanced secretion of gastric juice, as well as for atony (weakness) and bloating. It is recommended to take it with a decrease in appetite, various liver diseases. Oregano acts as a strong diuretic, promotes the resorption of stones in the kidneys and bladder.

The plant also calms the nervous system, has some analgesic effect. With convulsions, epilepsy, oregano is an antiemetic, tonic.

Oregano is widely used for various female diseases, therefore it is often called the motherboard or female grass. The herb is effective for diseases accompanied by bleeding, and also helps to relieve hot flashes and soothe headaches during menopause.

Oregano is drunk with insomnia, general weakness, after fainting, to raise the general tone of the body. It is believed that a healthy plant eliminates a bad, sad mood. Useful herb for hypertension, diabetes mellitus, bronchial asthma, tuberculosis.

For all these diseases, use oregano broth. To prepare it, two tablespoons of the grass are placed in an enameled dish, poured with a glass of hot water, heated in a water bath for 15 minutes, and then insisted 40−45 minutes at room temperature.

Compresses from the decoction of oregano treat boils. With tonsillitis and laryngitis, a herbal broth gargles. To treat hoarseness, drink oregano broth in milk.

With toothache, stomatitis, periodontal disease, the grass is chewed. And sometimes a cotton wool with oregano oil is put on a bad tooth. Oil is prepared simply: a handful of finely chopped herbs is poured with sunflower oil and insisted for 8-10 hours.

For headaches, against baldness, to strengthen the hair with a decoction of oregano, they wash their hair. Aromatic therapeutic baths are prepared from the plant for those suffering from neurodermatitis, childhood eczema (50 g of oregano per bucket of water).
